DenseLight SLED goes LIVE in optical networks

Singapore, 14 May 2004 DenseLight Semiconductors is pleased to announce that our Superluminescent LED (SLED) has gone "LIVE" - it is now deployed in optical networks carrying revenue generating traffic.  This is the only SLED accepted for deployment in carrier class optical networking equipment.  "This historical event signifies the acceptance of SLEDs, and of DenseLight, by Tier-I carriers worldwide.  DenseLight began volume shipment of SLED products last year and recently secured a volume purchase agreement (VPA) from a key customer" observed Dr. Yee Loy Lam, CEO of DenseLight.

A key differentiator is that DenseLight SLED is the only Telcordia qualified SLED in the industry.  The Telcordia qualification is a hallmark of reliability of optical active devices under harsh operating conditions.

Customers in non-telecom market segments such as defense, biomedical diagnostics, spectroscopy, and fiber sensors are already benefiting from the robustness of DenseLight SLEDs.  These customers have unique sets of demanding requirements.  They particularly care about “clean power”, which is a set of spectral parameters that goes beyond raw optical output power. Examples of clean power parameters are: spectral ripple, temporal coherency and beam polarization.

"Customers prefer our SLED today for its superior performance, and want to be assured that these features are stable over time.  We have convincingly demonstrated long term stability of all these spectral features in our SLEDs to exceed customer expectations." commented Dr. Sunil B. Phatak, VP of Technical Marketing.
