DenseLight introduces the next generation of high performance Superluminescent LEDs (SLEDs)

Singapore, 25 January 2003 - DenseLight Semiconductors Private Limited ("DenseLight") announces the development of extremely high performance SLED light sources based on state of the art QWI (Quantum Well Intermixing) technology. This patented technology, coupled with DenseLight’s SLED device design breakthroughs, allows the company to push the performance envelope in all three dimensions of wideband spectrum, high power, and low ripple simultaneously.

"Customers are responding enthusiastically to our current product offering of superior performance SLEDs based on DenseLight’s true inherent superluminescent device design" noted Bill Diamond, CEO. With this design, DenseLight’s SLEDs achieve higher spectral widths at high power outputs. Diamond also added "We are first to market a SLED that can support uncooled high-power operation, up to 70 deg C. The combination of performance and high reliability truly differentiate DenseLight. With our design breakthroughs, we can support system designers in a wide range of applications, without concern about traditional design trade-offs. With spectral enhancements through our QWI technology, we can push spectral width performance even further."

"As the only semiconductor incoherent light source of this nature, SLEDs are the most convenient and low cost for a myriad of industrial sensing and measurement applications" explains Dr. Yee-Loy Lam, CTO & cofounder. "Our customers are employing SLEDs in optical coherence tomography for retina scanning, fiber-optic gyroscopes for navigation, testing installed optical fiber links; and in smart-skin sensors for stress monitoring in mission critical buildings and aircrafts, and biomedical diagnostic systems."

DenseLight’s researchers will present the performance characteristics of their SLED in a paper: 'Wide Spectral Width Superluminscent Diodes Fabricated by Quantum Well Intermixing' during Photonic West 2003 on Jan 27, 2.20pm Session 9, Convention Center Room C2.
